Future City Design: Online Class for Gifted Learners

Following the success of the Codes & Ciphers class, Tradewinds School is partnering with Cresconova Global to offer a new 6-session online series: Future City Design. The class starts Tuesday, January 13 at 4:30 PM HST.

About the Class

In this class, students will explore the evolution of settlements and metropolitan areas throughout history as a way to predict what cities may become in the future. Students will examine the many variables necessary in city planning, from housing and transportation to recreation, grappling with important questions about infrastructure: Where does all of the trash go? Where does our water come from? Where does it go?

Each student will create their own designs for a city of the future.

Student Outcomes

• Identify and understand the many components of city planning
• Understand the history and progress of cities over time as a way to better predict the future
• Create a futuristic urban city plan, applying knowledge learned through research and design thinking

About the Instructor

Katie Kelly has worked as a teacher and educational consultant for over 16 years in independent and public schools, including 7 years at the Nueva School in Hillsborough, CA. She received her Master's in Elementary Education at USC Rossier School of Education with a Certification in Gifted Education. She is currently the Director of Learning at Cresconova.
