A Successful Info Session and an Invitation to Join Us This Sunday

By Andy Szybalski

Yesterday's Admissions Info Session was a genuine success. We had a great turnout at Treehouse Coworking in Kaimuki, and Carl Sabatino's presentation sparked many great conversations with parents about gifted education in Hawaiʻi.

I personally always enjoy meeting parents who have shared the highs and lows of parenting extraordinary children. Walking into a room full of families navigating similar questions—about intellectual peers, appropriate challenge, and finding the right educational environment—reminded me why we're building Tradewinds. I came away more excited than ever to build this community with you.

If You Missed Yesterday's Event

Don't worry if you couldn't make it. We recorded the full session and will be sending it out soon to everyone on our email list. Carl's presentation covered what giftedness actually means, how it differs from being "schoolhouse gifted," and what a specialized program looks like in practice.

Join Us This Sunday at Bishop Museum

Meanwhile, we have a quick turnaround opportunity this weekend.

We're exhibiting at the Hawaii K-12 Parent & School Expo at the Bishop Museum:

When: Sunday, January 25, 2026 · 11 AM - 2 PM

Where: The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice St, Honolulu, HI 96817

Registration required

The expo is expected to be very busy, so we encourage you to arrive early to beat the crowds.

Stop by our table to meet Carl and me, learn about Hawaiʻi's first elementary school designed specifically for gifted learners, and pick up information about our program and admissions.

This is a great opportunity if you couldn't make it yesterday, or if you want to continue the conversation and bring friends or family who might be interested in learning about what we're building.

Building Hawaii's Gifted Community

What struck me most about yesterday's event wasn't just the number of families who attended—it was the shared recognition in the room. Parents describing challenges their children face, only to see other parents nodding knowingly. The relief of discovering you're not alone in navigating these questions.

That's what Tradewinds is ultimately about: building a community where gifted learners and their families finally have peers who understand. We're doing it through the school itself, through events like these, and through creating spaces where Hawaii's gifted community can connect.

See you Sunday at Bishop Museum.
